Good morning CFVH Fam! I wanted to share a few thoughts on why we need social interaction now more than ever and why your Crossfit Vint Hill Community is the place to turn.
As humans, we are generally social beings. Even when we choose a quiet night in over a night out on the town with friends, we still have our “people” who are there for us and who we turn to when we want to be social. These people satisfy our need for human interaction and provide us a way to stay in the loop. I don’t know about you, but many of the people in my life who come to mind as being my “people” are those of you I’ve met through CrossFit Vint Hill. Y’all are my community and knowing I won’t be able to see you in person every day is crushing.
Our fitness community becomes exponentially more important when we are forced to keep our physical distance from the box. Many of us look forward to that one hour of the day where we meet at the box, chit chat/answer the question of the day, and then grind through a workout with our fellow athletes. But what do we do now that the doors of our box are closed during this quarantine?
In times of crisis and when so much is unknown in our world, we need each other more than ever. We need our fitness community because we all know it is about so much more than fitness. We need each other when our morale is low and our motivation to get moving is next to none. We need each other to bounce ideas about how to keep our families entertained during quarantine. We need each other to share recipes and meals when our creative cooking juices stop flowing.
So what can we do? Reach out to friends you usually see at the box. Plan to workout together on ZOOM at a specific class time for mutual accountability. Make physical fitness a priority in your day, and do not let it be something you sacrifice. If you’re lacking motivation, reach out to a coach. If you’re struggling with nutrition, reach out to a coach. If you’re having a tough time figuring out a movement in one of our HomeWODs, touch base with a coach. We are all here for you, and we want to serve as a source of inspiration and positivity during a time when it is easy to feel isolated and alone.
We can still nurture and grow the sense of community our owners have worked so hard to create by keeping in touch socially with other members of the gym even though we have to keep our distance physically. When there are so many reasons to be stressed out and anxious, turn inside to remember your “why” for staying physically, mentally, and emotionally fit. And then, turn out to your community on any of the platforms through which we can safely communicate: FaceTime, ZOOM, social media, texts, phone calls, etc. and support each other. We are all experiencing and processing this time differently, and you never know how reaching out will positively impact someone’s day.
See y’all during our ZOOM workouts! I’ll be looking for you 😊
